a drunk mind speaks the sober heart.

it has been a long 12 months. when you have a lot of free time, you tend to demand answers for all of the things you assume to be wrong with your life. at the beginning of this year, no one let me down more than myself and it was a difficult climb back from that realization.

then there was a shift in the air and i landed a new gig. it allowed me to take my casual interest in movies/pop culture and turn it into a full on love affair. i saw 52 movies this year (some for work and others for pleasure). i've spent a bit of time in some of the nicest boutique hotels in LA talking to people about the cinema. i've sat directly in front of some of my favorite actors. i've mustered the courage to ask them questions. i've become comfortable conducting one-on-one interviews in isolated hotel rooms. i've written about these experiences to promote films. i've learned to work the press line at movie premieres and be aggressive to get what i need. all of this, has helped me feel useful and less weak.

with each passing year, i prioritize and appreciate all of the small things and the details that shape them. each inside joke, triumphant night out, thoughtful conversation, shared meal or late night heart-on-your-sleeve-go-about, i've found something meaningful. i want to carry that feeling into the new year and share it with those whom i love and admire.

for my family and handful of confidants, i've tried my damnedest to make you proud and to show you that my heart is built upon our interactions and your importance in my everyday. love you fuckers.

thank you universe for cutting me the occasional break. 2013, let's get it on.

my favorite things the past 12 months: looper, rust & bone, silver linings playbook, safety not guaranteed, the acting of emily blunt & rosemarie dewitt, working the avengers premiere (scarjo + RDJ = AHH!), murakami sushi, jessie ware's "wildest moments", FYF 2012, carchella + hotella, solange's "losing you", discovering RHYE, the joy of otter pops/the tallest of giraffes, miguel's sophomore record, goldroom/ghost loft original tracks, chad valley, telling my brother to GFY, women's cousins day, smiling at joseph gordon levitt, birthday drinks with the bosser, surprise visits from papa V, g&b coffee/sqirl and catching up on jessica chastain's filmography.

cheers for the tears and fears,

make magic, do good.

we forget the loves and the betrayals alike, forget what we whispered and what we screamed.

avoid this movie like the plague this holiday season...and any other day after that.

truly a painful experience,

as long as you made it to the top, you don’t call the climb a mistake.

fun fact: last week i rode the elevator with mark wahlberg at the ritz carlton in DTLA. a few hours later he shared that tidbit with our roundtable when he commented on being early for work commitments. here's what i wrote about the 15 minute interview. still love the big hit btw.

i remind myself that times could be much worse.

admittedly i have never seen a barbra streisand movie, but when i attended the the press junket for the guilt trip a few weeks ago, i quickly understood her appeal. the legendary singer/actress/director comes off super down to earth and extremely likable. i'm a fan of seth rogen and i can understand why he took this role, i just wish the movie wasn't so boring.

you took away, i fell apart.

sometimes my job consists of walking across the street from my office and taking pictures of the cast of les miserables. hugh jackman is one hell of an entertainer and totally deserves the 2,487th star on the hollywood walk of fame.

this is the beauty of atmosphere and careful, inspired curation.

priorities: you can fight but you won't always win.

you know i'm hearing nothing but a heartbeat.

flipping one of my favorite singles of the year with a barrage of unexpected drum beats, UMO owns this remix.

i think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be.

every move has a reaction but not every crime has a punishment. when things get messy, sometimes blame gets cast upon a person close to the situation but not necessary the reason for it. there's always a price to pay, even if you're not the one whose supposed to serve the penance.

every exit is a start.

something is one of my favorite records of 2012. the only drawback is that it came out so early in the year that sometimes i forget about it. but gawddamn, even the album's demos are ace.

the where, the why and the how.

since my former bosser started working at the roc, i will read or listen to anything that comes from that camp. so that's the story behind this discovery. say hi to elijah blake (with a hat tip to old favorite, common).

but you give me the sweet talk, and it works for me.

on thursday i kidnapped my bwesty and caught the los angeles debut of jessie ware at the bootleg theater. the charms of the london singer were unmistakable once she took the stage. with a million apologies for being late (she forgot her "trousers") and clarifying her stance on big pun (for the record she loves the man), she had the audience hanging off of her every word and eyes-closed note.

thankfully i will be seeing her once again in january. until then, jam to her new single and its amazingly cute video.

minds were made to be blown.

perfection in a tiny cup.

these fears will always protect you.

chad valley + DTLA + piano = swoon.

like a nostalgia for the present, i just couldn't shake it.

here's hoping you find your way back down to earth and snap back into reality.

ignorance is bliss, i know exactly what this is.

full disclosure. i accepted the invite to the deadfall press junket only to be able to talk to olivia wilde. but really, who doesn't love olivia wilde? in person she's STUNNING and tends to answer questions with a very genuine sense of humor and likability.

also, eric bana and charlie hunnam weren't too hard on the eyes and ears (those accents, so cute!) while the movie is kind of a mess at times, let the record show that i'll attend any junket with miss wilde.

i wont treat you like you're oh so typical.

you can't teach it and you certainly can't fake it.

you're not the only person charles.

i would pretty much watch anything with aubrey plaza, bill murray or jason schwartzman. so tickle me interested that they're all in this.

a glimpse inside the mind of charles swan III hits the cinemas this february.

the goal was always to be better than i was at the present time, at what i was doing.

today is the day.

words like knives that no longer cut.

we're all just trying to figure it out.

what about lust, what about trust.

it's that time of the year. when arm grazes, long bouts of eye contact and lingering smiles mean something more. tis the season when many yearn for a different kind of company. a companion for the decorative season and for that inevitable kiss at midnight.
