i'm not the target audience for a movie like this, but i will say that in person, jason statham is so sweet and giggly that i was pleasantly surprised at the awesome impression he gave off.

once inspiration or confidence is discovered in someone you're close to, it's easy to find yourself agreeing with the curves of their life path. believing in their dreams, supporting their decisions and most importantly, trusting in even their foggiest of movements. it's a safety net you can't touch or define but there's strength in such emotions and you'd be surprised at the great lengths you'd go to protect it.

i'm the motherfucker that found this place, sir.

i was lucky enough to see zero dark thirty last month with my brother. i didn't know much about the hunt for osama bin laden or the events that led up to his execution, but i was transfixed for the movie's entire duration at the intensity that transpired on screen. jessica chastain's portrayal of maya is a tidal wave of composure, obsession, powerful dedication and balls. it's an oscar worthy performance that finds her battling it out with jennifer lawrence come award season.

ZDT will leave you thinking and talking about it long after the screen fades to black. highly recommended (side note: bert macklin is in it!)

confession. whenever i'm impressed with a performance from an actor or actress, i go back and try to watch their most recent filmography. as i admitted on my new years eve post, i became obsessed with the acting of emily blunt earlier this year. so i went back and tracked down her last few films, which lead to me to the adjustment bureau, co-starring matt damon. shortly after watching that movie, i was invited to the press junket for promised land. co-written and co-starring damon and john krasinski (aka emily blunt's husband).

to bring it all full circle, promised land also stars the always impressive rosemarie dewitt (who in the past year has co-starred with emily blunt in the criminally underrated your sister's sister and john krasinski in nobody walks).

needless to say it was a pleasure talking to damon, krasinski and dewitt. as for the film, the performances are beautiful and grounded, i just wish the film could've stuck the final landing.

a drunk mind speaks the sober heart.

it has been a long 12 months. when you have a lot of free time, you tend to demand answers for all of the things you assume to be wrong with your life. at the beginning of this year, no one let me down more than myself and it was a difficult climb back from that realization. 

then there was a shift in the air and i landed a new gig. it allowed me to take my casual interest in movies/pop culture and turn it into a full on love affair. i saw 52 movies this year (some for work and others for pleasure). i've spent a bit of time in some of the nicest boutique hotels in LA talking to people about the cinema. i've sat directly in front of some of my favorite actors. i've mustered the courage to ask them questions. i've become comfortable conducting one-on-one interviews in isolated hotel rooms. i've written about these experiences to promote films. i've learned to work the press line at movie premieres and be aggressive to get what i need. all of this, has helped me feel useful and less weak. 

with each passing year, i prioritize and appreciate all of the small things and the details that shape them. each inside joke, triumphant night out, thoughtful conversation, shared meal or late night heart-on-your-sleeve-go-about, i've found something meaningful. i want to carry that feeling into the new year and share it with those whom i love and admire. 

for my family and handful of confidants, i've tried my damnedest to make you proud and to show you that my heart is built upon our interactions and your importance in my everyday. love you fuckers.

thank you universe for cutting me the occasional break. 2013, let's get it on.
